Amazon launches 3,000‑job logistics hub near Lyon, France

Amazon inaugurated its ninth French distribution centre, code‑named LYS 2, in Colombier‑Saugnieu close to Lyon‑Saint‑Exupéry airport. The 60,000 m², three‑storey facility is part of the company’s €15 billion investment plan for France and involved more than €200 million in construction.

The site is pledged to create up to 3,000 permanent jobs in logistics and related functions, with 1,000 positions already filled at opening and a target of 1,500 hires by the end of 2026. Recruitment is open to candidates without diplomas, coordinated with France Travail, and focuses on long‑term unemployed, young people, seniors and persons with disabilities. The centre employs advanced robotics and AI to shorten delivery times and reduce parcel travel distances by about 31 %.

Local authorities and transport providers have adapted infrastructure to accommodate the workforce, reinforcing the economic impact on the Rhône region. The hub contributes to Amazon’s status as France’s leading net creator of direct employment, adding to its nationwide goal of 8,000 new jobs.
