Amazon launches Alexa AI tool to detect impersonation scams

Amazon has launched a new AI-powered feature through Alexa for Shopping to help customers identify fraudulent communications. The tool allows users to verify whether suspicious emails, text messages, or phone calls claiming to be from Amazon are genuine by providing details such as the sender, timing, and message content.

Alexa compares the provided information against Amazon’s official records of billions of communications. The system analyzes the sender, content, timing, and formatting to determine authenticity. Amazon stated that the tool will only confirm a message as genuine when it is completely certain; if verification is not possible, Alexa will advise users to check their orders directly through the official app or website.

This initiative aims to address the high volume of impersonation scams, such as fake delivery notifications or account suspension warnings. Amazon reports that approximately 360,000 customers contact its service annually to verify communications. The feature has rolled out in the US, with plans for future regional expansion.
