Amazon MGM Studios Plans Heat 2 Production and Mulls Heat 3 Sequel

Amazon MGM Studios is moving ahead with the production of Heat 2, a sequel and prequel to the 1995 crime film. The movie is slated to begin filming later in 2026 with a reported budget of about $165‑$170 million, making it the most expensive Michael Mann project to date. The cast is expected to include Christian Bale as Vincent Hanna and Leonardo DiCaprio as Chris Shiherlis, with additional roles being discussed for Stephen Graham and Adam Driver.

According to sources close to the production, the studio is already considering a third installment, Heat 3, though details on whether it will be a direct sequel or a spin‑off have not been confirmed. Michael Mann, who co‑wrote the original novel with Meg Gardiner, remains involved, while Warner Bros., which originally passed on the sequel over budget concerns, is not part of the new arrangement. Sony is set to handle international distribution.
