Amazon México expands electric fleet and water conservation efforts

Amazon México has announced a strategic plan to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, as part of its commitment to The Climate Pledge. The company’s strategy is built on three pillars: logistics decarbonization, circular economy, and community impact.

To address transportation, which accounts for approximately 40% of its carbon footprint, Amazon is expanding its electric fleet. The company currently operates over 70 electric vehicles, including heavy units, and is adding 50 electric last-mile delivery vans to Mexico City and Monterrey by the end of 2026.

In terms of waste reduction, more than 80% of shipments are now free of single-use plastics, utilizing FSC-certified paper or cardboard. Additionally, 16% of direct shipments are delivered in the manufacturer’s original packaging without extra Amazon boxing. The company also promotes reuse through initiatives like Amazon Segunda Vida.

Beyond logistics, Amazon reported significant water conservation efforts across three states, saving over 4 billion liters of water. This includes a pressure system in Mexico City that has benefited 98,000 people.
