Amazon cargo plane crash at Miami International Airport kills at least five
An Amazon Prime Air Boeing 767-300 cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday after overshooting the runway. The aircraft, operated by 21 Air and arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, veered off the runway, crossed a perimeter fence, and collided with several vehicles on a nearby road, including a cleaning company van and a Toyota. The collision resulted in at least five deaths and five injuries, with three individuals reported in critical condition.
The crash caused a massive fire and thick black smoke to rise from the aircraft. Emergency responders, including over 60 units from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, worked to extinguish the flames and extricate victims trapped in vehicles and the cockpit. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has deployed a team to investigate the cause, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also opened an inquiry. Investigators are examining factors such as touchdown location, aircraft speed, braking, and weather conditions.
The NTSB has successfully recovered both the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder for analysis. The incident caused a significant disruption at Miami International Airport, leading to a full ground stop and the temporary closure of all runways and taxiways.
