Amazon Redshift adds rg.large and rg.12xlarge instances

On July 16 2026 Amazon Redshift announced the general availability of two new Graviton‑powered RG instance sizes – rg.large and rg.12xlarge. The sizes deliver up to 2.4× faster query performance than earlier‑generation RA3 nodes while offering about 30 % lower price per vCPU, giving customers more flexibility to right‑size clusters.

Both sizes are offered only on the current track (P202); users on the trailing track (P201) can continue with rg.xlarge and rg.4xlarge. Existing RA3 clusters can migrate to the new RG instances via snapshot‑restore, elastic resize, or classic resize. On‑demand pricing for rg.large is $0.4473 per node‑hour in the Tokyo (ap‑northeast‑1) region, while rg.12xlarge costs $10.7429 per node‑hour. The new instance types are now available in a wide set of AWS regions worldwide, including US East, US West, Canada, Europe, Africa, and many Asia‑Pacific locations.
