Amazon signs power agreement for Shetland wind farm

Amazon has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with energy developer Statkraft for the Mossy Hill wind farm located near Lerwick in the Shetland Islands. Under the agreement, Amazon will purchase 36MW of renewable electricity from the eight-turbine onshore wind development.

The Mossy Hill project is expected to become operational in November 2030, with turbines anticipated to be delivered in 2029. Once active, the farm is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 57,000 homes annually.

This deal is part of Amazon’s broader renewable energy strategy in the United Kingdom. The company has invested in over 50 carbon-free energy projects across the UK, including solar and wind installations, totaling more than one gigawatt of capacity. Amazon stated that its investments in the UK’s low-carbon economy totaled more than £3 billion between 2021 and 2025.
