Amazon signs wind farm deal in Shetland Islands with Statkraft
Amazon has entered into a 36 MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Norwegian energy firm Statkraft to support the Mossy Hill wind farm in the Shetland Islands, Scotland. The project is scheduled to become operational in November 2030 and is projected to generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of more than 57,000 homes.
This agreement is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to reach net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040. The company’s renewable energy portfolio in the UK now exceeds 50 projects, with a combined capacity of over 1 GW. Previous Scottish energy commitments include the Moray West offshore wind farm and the Chirmorie Wind Farm in South Ayrshire.
For Statkraft, the long-term contract provides the revenue certainty necessary to move the project toward construction. For Amazon, the deal secures a long-term renewable energy supply for its data centers, fulfillment centers, and corporate operations.
