Amazonas and Roraima open school games for thousands of students

Governor Roberto Cidade officially opened the 47th edition of the Amazonas School Games (JEAs) on July 16 at the Arena Poliesportiva Amadeu Teixeira in Manaus. The competition, organized by the State Secretariat of Education and Sports, features about 5,800 student athletes from state, municipal, federal and private schools and will run until July 26 across a variety of sports.

In Roraima, the second phase of the School Games began on July 14 at Estádio Canarinho, marking the 60th anniversary of the event. More than 3,000 students from 15 municipalities participated, with a torch relay honouring former athletes such as Joycevânia Nascimento and Lázaro Vieira. The games, promoted by the Institute of Sports and Youth, will continue until July 21, offering competitions in handball, volleyball, futsal and other disciplines.

Both state programmes aim to promote sport as a tool for youth development, encourage teamwork, and serve as qualifiers for national school competitions.
