Amazonas authorities seek five suspects in indigenous teen gang rape
The Amazonas Civil Police have identified five men suspected of the gang rape of a 15-year-old indigenous girl in the rural municipality of Itamarati. The incident occurred on September 18, following reports that the suspects offered the teenager alcoholic beverages before the assault.
Investigations by the 68th Interactive Police Station (DIP) were prompted after videos allegedly documenting the violence began circulating on WhatsApp groups. A local resident reported the crime after viewing the footage. Forensic examinations and specialized hearings have confirmed the violence.
The judiciary has issued preventive arrest warrants for four suspects, identified as Tucuwi Carlinhos dos Santos Kanamari, Kodo Isaias Kanamari, Awano Kanamari, and an individual known as ‘Zeca Bomba’. A fifth suspect has also been identified, and a request for his arrest is pending. Authorities are also investigating two additional individuals suspected of assisting the suspects in their escape.
The National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) is monitoring the case and maintaining dialogue with community representatives.
