Amazonas passes 47 new laws; Manaus council adopts fiscal and social reforms

In May, the Amazonas State Legislature sanctioned 47 bills covering a range of issues. New statutes address health initiatives such as Parkinson disease awareness and hypertension campaigns, protect animals by regulating work‑dog care and veterinary exam referrals, and enhance civil defense with protocols for river flood and low‑water events. Other measures include mandatory ID documentation for children on intermunicipal river transport, priority dental care for women victims of domestic violence, and the establishment of official dates like the Day of the Industrious.

The Manaus City Council also approved several complementary laws. One creates a permanent fiscal‑sustainability regime for municipal finances, while another revises the city’s pension system, transferring 2,526 beneficiaries from the financial fund to the pension fund to improve long‑term stability. Additional approvals establish an annual Digital Polo Fair in October, a permanent awareness campaign for autism inclusion, and a popular forum on community sports programs.
