Amazonas students win top prizes at Brazilian Rocket Olympiad

Students from the state of Amazonas achieved significant success at the 20th Brazilian Rocket Olympiad (OBAFOG) held in Barra do Piraí, Rio de Janeiro.

A team from the Colégio da Polícia Militar do Amazonas VIII (CMPM VIII) and the Escola Estadual Coronel Pedro Câmara secured first place. The team, consisting of João Inácio, Josué Rique, and Victor Gabriel, achieved a launch height of 239.7 meters, surpassing 85 other competing teams. Despite facing challenges such as heavy rain and strong winds, the students completed the competition without penalties under the guidance of physics professor Luís Ricardo Pereira.

Additionally, students from the São João municipal school, located in the São João do Tupé riverside community in Manaus, earned second and third place. This achievement was supported by the Manaus Municipal Education Secretariat (Semed) and the Amazonas State Research Foundation (Fapeam). The success of the riverside students was highlighted as a result of the ‘Decolando Saberes’ project, demonstrating the scientific potential within rural and riverside educational networks.
