Amazonas students success in Brazilian rocket competitions

Overview

Students from the state of Amazonas achieved high rankings in national rocket competitions held in Barra do Piraí, Rio de Janeiro.

A team from the Colégio da Polícia Militar do Amazonas VIII (CMPM VIII), comprising students João Inácio, Josué Rique, and Victor Gabriel, secured first place at the 20th Brazilian Rocket Olympiad (OBAFOG). Guided by physics professor Luís Ricardo Pereira, the team reached a launch height of 239.7 meters, surpassing 85 other competing teams despite facing heavy rain and strong winds.

Other students from the São João municipal school in the São João do Tupé riverside community in Manaus also earned second and third place. This success was attributed to the ‘Decolando Saberes’ project, supported by the Manaus Municipal Education Secretariat (Semed) and the Amazonas State Research Foundation (Fapeam).
