Amazonian art exhibitions announced in São Luís and Belém

Two major art exhibitions focusing on the Amazonian landscape and environmental themes are scheduled in Brazil.

In São Luís, Mará Marcone Moreira will present “O mundo em trânsito de Marcone Moreira” at CHÃO SLZ from October 7 to November 7, 2026. Curated by Eucanaã Ferraz, the exhibition explores the artist's visual connection to the Amazon, using materials like truck body wood and boat timber to reflect on social and symbolic transformations.

In Belém, the Centro Cultural Banco da Amazônia will host “Burle Marx, Expedição Amazônia,” opening on September 22, 2026. The exhibition features over 200 photographs and documents documenting Roberto Burle Marx’s 1983 expedition through 11,000 kilometers of the Amazon. The collection highlights his role as a botanical researcher and environmental critic, showcasing the approximately 400 plant species collected during his 52-day journey across nine states.
