Brazilian cultural and musical heritage celebrations

Cultural celebrations and musical legacies continue to be highlighted across Brazil, with a growing focus on the intersection of heritage and environmental awareness.

In the Amazon region, the show ‘As Amazônias’ at CAIXA Cultural in Recife is scheduled for August 21, 22, 28, and 29, 2026. Featuring artists Aíla, Djuena Tikuna, and Patrícia Bastos, the production uses music, visual arts, and technology to showcase indigenous traditions and Afro-Amazonian rhythms like carimbó and marabaixo. Meanwhile, the Centro Cultural João Fona in Santarém is hosting the II Exhibition of Amazonian Cultural Heritage Art, which features works from Pará artists exploring the connection between cultural heritage and the climate emergency. This exhibition includes accessibility resources such as Libras interpretation, audio description, and Braille.

New initiatives are also expanding the dialogue between tradition and contemporary issues. In Salvador, Casa Preta Espaço de Cultura will host the musical project ‘Na Seiva da Voz’ by Ekedy Sinha on August 21, focusing on the contemporary recreation of the chants of the orixá Ossain. This event will include a debate on the conflicts between indigenous and traditional religious peoples and contemporary politics.

In Amazonian territories, the ‘Vozes da Terra’ Cine Debate initiative is using audiovisual tools to promote discussions on climate change, environmental preservation, and citizenship. Supported by CESE and organized with partners including the Anglican Diocese of the Amazon, REPAM, and Movimento Tela Firme, the program includes film screenings and immersive virtual reality experiences in locations such as Combú and Abacatal to connect local communities with global socio-environmental debates.
