Amazonian art exhibitions open in Rio de Janeiro and São Luís

Two new art exhibitions inspired by the Amazon are opening in Brazil, highlighting the region's cultural and environmental importance.

In Rio de Janeiro, the exhibition ‘Amazônicas: Poéticas femininas’ is opening at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB RJ). Curated by Sissa Aneleh and conceptualized by the Museu das Mulheres, the show features 80 works by 21 contemporary female artists from the states of Pará, Acre, and Amazonas. The exhibition includes an immersive metaverse experience using augmented reality and 3D glasses.

Simultaneously, the ‘Além dos Verdes’ exhibition is opening at Galeria Trapiche in São Luís. This showcase explores the connection between artists, the forest, and its rivers through various mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, and installations. The project aims to foster reflection on biodiversity and the urgent challenges of environmental preservation and climate change.

Both exhibitions are supported by the Ministry of Culture and sponsored by Petrobras via the Lei Rouanet.
