Amazonian cultural traditions and festivities highlighted in regional events
Various cultural and community events are highlighting traditions and festivities across the Amazon region. In Belém, the 14th Circuito Norte em Dança is concluding at the Hangar Centro de Convenções, bringing together approximately one thousand dancers and 57 groups from 11 different cities. The festival features choreographies inspired by local elements such as the Círio de Nazaré and carimbó.
In the context of the Círio de Nazaré, the traditional art of miriti toy making remains a significant cultural and economic driver. Artisans, particularly in Abaetetuba, use the lightweight material from the Mauritia flexuosa palm to create intricate figures, including animals and religious symbols, which are widely seen during the festivities.
Additionally, Amazonas Shopping in Manaus is hosting children's activities for Children's Day. The Toca do Angatu program includes workshops for slime making, face painting, and balloon sculpting, with entry facilitated by the donation of non-perishable food items.
