Ambato, Ecuador and Nepeña, Peru launch new community parks

The municipality of Ambato, Ecuador, is building a 5,463‑square‑metre recreational park in the San Pablo neighbourhood of the Cunchibamba parish. The project, aimed at serving roughly 5,500 local residents, will replace an old neighbourhood court with sports fields, play areas and communal spaces. Resident María Analuisa said the park “represents an important change for the sector” and will give children a safe place to play.

In the district of Nepeña, Áncash, Peru, officials placed the first stone for Parque San Pedro in the centre of San Jacinto. The 90‑day project, funded with S/ 802,384.32, will add a pergola, playground equipment, ornamental benches, paved walkways, lighting, green zones and an irrigation system. Mayor Manuel Figueroa Laos highlighted that the work “recovers a space for everyone” and will strengthen community cohesion.

Both initiatives are part of municipal plans to improve public spaces, promote recreation and enhance quality of life for local families.
