Community park and sports space development in Ecuador and $

Overview

Municipalities in Ecuador and Peru have initiated and completed various projects to develop and recover community recreational spaces.

In July 2026, Ambato, Ecuador, began constructing a 5,463-square-metre park in the San Pablo neighbourhood to provide sports fields and play areas. Simultaneously, officials in Nepeña, Peru, commenced work on Parque San Pedro, a 90-day project designed to add playgrounds, walkways, and green zones to the San Jacinto centre.

By mid-August 2026, infrastructure efforts reached key milestones. In Peru, a partnership between Caja Huancayo, the Fundación Caja Huancayo, and the Municipalidad Distrital de La Victoria resulted in the completed integral recovery of the Parque del Emprendedor and the Indoamérica Sports Complex near the Gamarra district. This project, involving an investment exceeding S/ 1.1 million, included the rehabilitation of two synthetic grass fields, upgrades to green areas, parking, and electrical and sanitary installations.

In Ecuador, the Guayaquil City Council established a four-year agreement with the Liga Deportiva Barrial ‘Jardines del Salado’ to manage and maintain the synthetic sports field at Jardines del Salado Linear Park. Under this agreement, the local league is responsible for administration and maintenance, while the municipality handles major corrective maintenance and technical assistance. The arrangement mandates free community access and prohibits privatization or profit-driven fees.
