Amber nugget valued at 1 million euros used as doorstop in Romania

A 3.5-kilogram amber nugget, valued at approximately 1 million euros, was used for decades as a doorstop in a home in southeastern Romania. The reddish stone was originally found by an elderly woman in a stream near the village of Colți.

Following the woman's death, an heir investigated the item's origin and sent it for professional evaluation. Experts from the History Museum in Kraków, Poland, determined the piece to be one of the largest intact pieces of amber, estimated to be between 38.5 million and 70 million years old.

Due to its rarity and scientific value, the nugget has been classified as a national treasure of Romania. It has been under the care of the Buzău County Museum since 2022.
