Indonesia faces drought, haze, and tropical cyclone risks

Indonesia is facing diverse weather extremes, including severe drought, haze from forest fires, and potential tropical cyclone activity. In Southeast Sulawesi, meteorological drought is worsening, with some areas reporting over 60 days without rain.

In Sumatra, widespread hotspots have been detected, with South Sumatra and Riau seeing significant numbers. The resulting haze has reached dangerous levels in Ogan Ilir, prompting local authorities to adjust school hours and reduce classroom time to protect students.

Simultaneously, the BMKG is monitoring tropical cyclone seed 97W in the North Pacific near Papua, which may trigger heavy rain and thunderstorms in several regions. While much of the country is expected to experience clear to cloudy conditions, specific areas face risks of heatstroke, dehydration, and reduced visibility due to smoke or haze.
