Ambulance birth occurs on BR-381 highway in Minas Gerais
A woman gave birth inside an ambulance while being transported along the BR-381 highway in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Nádia Micaela Gomes, 27, and her husband, Walisson de Oliveira Dias, were traveling from Belo Oriente toward Hospital Márcio Cunha in Ipatinga when the labor progressed rapidly.
The emergency was reported by the Nova 381 concessionaire's heavy tow truck leader to the Operations Control Center. A Pre-Hospital Care (APH) team, including Douglas Reis Fernandes de Souza and paramedics Luiz Filipe da Silva Marins and Alexia Giovana Barcelos da Silva, responded to the call.
While the team was en route to the hospital, the birth occurred in the Cariru neighborhood area. The medical team performed an assisted delivery, and the baby, Anaelise, was born at 18:28 weighing 3.7 kg. The mother reported that the baby was healthy and praised the responsiveness of the emergency crew.
