Overview
Two separate incidents of emergency childbirth were reported in Brazil during September 2026.
In Minas Gerais, a woman gave birth inside an ambulance while being transported along the BR-381 highway toward Hospital Márcio Cunha. The medical team performed an assisted delivery, and the newborn was reported to be healthy.
In São Gonçalo, a baby girl was born in the emergency department of the Hospital Estadual Alberto Torres. The mother, Elisângela de Paula, went into labor during a heavy rainstorm that prevented her family from reaching a maternity ward in Niterói. Medical staff stabilized both mother and child before transferring them to a regional maternity hospital.
