AMD advances AI and integrated graphics performance
AMD is advancing its integrated graphics and AI processing capabilities through new hardware and software optimizations. Performance benchmarks for the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495, part of the Gorgon Halo platform, show that its Radeon 8065S integrated GPU performs similarly to a dedicated NVIDIA RTX 5060 in certain gaming scenarios. For example, in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p high settings, the Radeon 8065S achieved an average of 104 fps, compared to 109 fps for the RTX 5060. This platform features 16 Zen 5 cores and up to 192 GB of unified memory, which can allocate up to 160 GB to the GPU.
Additionally, AMD's PerfOpt kernel optimization is providing performance boosts for local AI models on existing hardware. Tests on the Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U mobile processor showed AI performance increases ranging from 4% to 12% across various benchmarks. This optimization works by improving communication between processor cores, the GPU, and main memory, specifically by bypassing the IOMMU during direct memory access for integrated Radeon GPUs.
