Overview

In July 2026 AMD launched the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, an 8‑core desktop CPU for the AM5 socket that added second‑generation 3D V‑Cache, supported DDR5 and highlighted high‑frame‑rate gaming.

At the Advancing AI 2026 conference AMD confirmed that Zen 7 will be the final desktop Ryzen generation built for AM5, extending the socket’s supported lifespan to at least 2029. The roadmap shows Zen 8 moving to a new AM6 platform with native DDR6 memory and PCIe 6.0, marking a major architecture shift after one more Zen‑based release.

Zen 7 is slated for a server debut in 2028 and a desktop rollout around 2029, using TSMC’s A14/A16 processes, adding ACE AI extensions and retaining DDR5 controllers while also supporting LPDDR5X and high‑speed MRDIMM.

Taiwanese technology group Jiesida’s subsidiary ItsYang announced a full line of EPYC 9006 servers built on a 2‑nm process, offering up to 256 cores, PCIe Gen 6, and AI‑optimized 1U/2U modular designs for edge AI, large‑language‑model training and general data‑center use.

AMD also disclosed details of the upcoming Zen 6 family, introducing a low‑power Zen 6 LP core that blends microarchitectural elements from Zen 5, Zen 4, Zen 3 and Zen 2. Targeted at battery‑powered devices and future APUs, the LP core retains the Zen 6 ISA while delivering higher performance‑per‑watt, with early Linux kernel patches exposing its new topology.
