AMD and Intel next-generation processor benchmarks leaked
Early benchmark data for upcoming CPU architectures from AMD and Intel suggest significant performance improvements.
Testing of an AMD Epyc 9996 processor, based on the Zen 6 architecture, indicates a 16.5% increase in Instructions Per Cycle (IPC) compared to the Zen 5 Ryzen 7 9700X when tested at a matching clock speed of 4.1 GHz in Geekbench 7. This exceeds the previously anticipated 10-12% improvement.
Meanwhile, leaked PassMark Performance Test results for Intel’s upcoming Nova Lake (Core Ultra 4000) desktop engineering samples show promising single-core performance. Although the samples were running at a relatively low frequency of 4.8 GHz, the data provides an early look at whether Intel can compete with Apple, Qualcomm, and AMD’s Zen 6 architecture. The leaked samples appear to feature 24 cores, though the final Nova Lake-S architecture is expected to include 28 cores.
