AMD confirms Zen 6 processors will support AM5 socket through 2029

AMD has confirmed that its upcoming Zen 6 desktop processors, codenamed ‘Olympic Ridge’, will maintain compatibility with the existing AM5 socket. This commitment extends the AM5 platform's lifecycle through 2029, ensuring that users can upgrade across multiple core architectures without replacing their motherboards.

Technical documents also indicate that next-generation APUs under the ‘Medusa’ codename, including ‘Medusa Point’ and ‘Medusa Halo’, are expected to be compatible with the AM5 socket as well. These chips are anticipated to feature advanced RDNA graphics cores and XDNA NPU architectures.

In addition to long-term platform support, reports suggest AMD may expand its Zen 4 lineup with a new Ryzen 5 7500 processor. This model is expected to feature 6 cores, 12 threads, and a boost clock of up to 5.0GHz. Unlike the Ryzen 5 7500F, this version is rumored to include integrated RDNA 2 graphics, targeting the entry-level AM5 market with an estimated price of approximately 230 euros.
