AMD EPYC 9006 series server CPUs reveal performance and specialized AI capabilities
New details have emerged regarding AMD’s EPYC 9006 server CPU family, highlighting both high-performance benchmarks and specialized low-power configurations. The EPYC 9996, a massive server processor, features 256 Zen 6c cores distributed across eight Monarch CCDs. This configuration provides a total of 1GB of L3 cache and utilizes a 1024-bit memory bus capable of reaching 1.64 TB/s of memory bandwidth.
In single-threaded Geekbench 7 benchmarks, the EPYC 9996 demonstrated significant performance when compared to desktop-class hardware. Additionally, AMD is introducing the EPYC 9006 LP “Verano” family. Unlike standard server upgrades, the Verano series is designed as a specialized rack-scale AI host platform, featuring up to 112 Gb/s of CPU-to-GPU xGMI connectivity and support for LPDDR5X to facilitate high-speed accelerator hosting.
