AMD seeks to supply components for Brazil's AI supercomputer

AMD has expressed interest in supplying components for a Brazilian federal government supercomputer dedicated to artificial intelligence. The project involves an estimated investment of R$ 1.06 billion.

The supercomputer will be installed at the Augusto Severo Scientific and Technological Park in Macaíba, Rio Grande do Norte. According to Sergio Santos, AMD's general director in Brazil, the company has been providing information to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation as requested and intends to participate through partners such as HP, Lenovo, and Dell.

While Nvidia dominates the GPU market used for AI training, AMD is targeting opportunities in the CPU market. The company anticipates increased demand for CPUs as AI tasks become more sophisticated, particularly during the inference stage of AI operations.
