AMD expands FSR 4.1 technology to Xbox and handheld consoles
AMD has announced the deployment of its next-generation FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4.1 technology across several platforms. The machine-learning-based upscaling solution is coming to Xbox Series X|S consoles and will also support older Radeon RX 6000-series graphics cards and laptops equipped with Ryzen AI 9 processors.
Handheld gaming devices are seeing immediate updates. ASUS has released a preview driver for the ROG Xbox Ally X and Ally X20, enabling FSR 4.1 via Armoury Crate SE. This version utilizes a lightweight AI model optimized for the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor to balance visual fidelity with power efficiency. The update is compatible with over 400 titles that currently support FSR 3.1 or newer.
Separately, AMD is reintroducing the Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor as a 10th Anniversary Edition for the AM4 platform. This decision, driven by CEO Lisa Su, aims to provide a final high-performance upgrade path for long-term AM4 users, allowing them to improve gaming capabilities using existing DDR4 memory and motherboards.
