AMD to end AM5 Ryzen line with Zen 7, shift Zen 8 to AM6

AMD announced at its Advancing AI 2026 event that the upcoming Zen 7 architecture will likely be the last desktop Ryzen family built for the AM5 socket, extending the AM5 roadmap to at least 2029. Zen 7 is expected to debut on servers in 2028 and on desktops around 2029, using TSMC’s A14/A16 process, ACE extensions, and supporting next‑gen LPDDR5X and high‑speed MRDIMM memory while retaining DDR5 controllers.

The company also indicated that the next Zen 8 generation will move to a new AM6 platform, bringing native DDR6 memory and PCIe 6.0 support. This shift follows AMD’s policy of adopting new socket standards only when major memory or I/O advances are introduced. The roadmap suggests one more Zen architecture may appear on AM5 before the transition, with Zen 6‑based “Olympic Ridge” products slated for 2026‑2027.
