AMD unveils Venice EPYC architecture for Agentic AI era

AMD has released new technical documentation and a white paper detailing its 6th-generation EPYC server processors, specifically focusing on the upcoming Venice architecture. The company aims to position its hardware as a versatile foundation for the era of Agentic AI, which requires complex orchestration, search, and application integration across diverse workloads.

The Venice lineup is expected to feature a broad portfolio, including density-optimized parts with up to 256 cores and frequency-optimized parts, such as a 96-core model capable of boosting to 5 GHz. Technical specifications for the EPYC 9006 SP7 platform include 16 channels of DDR5 and PCIe 6.0 connectivity compatible with CXL 3.1.

In performance benchmarks cited by AMD, the 96-core Venice processor reportedly achieved 1.2 times the per-core performance of NVIDIA’s Vera in SPECrate 2026 Integer tests. This release is viewed as a strategic move to challenge NVIDIA’s dominance in the AI infrastructure market by offering a multi-purpose CPU platform suitable for enterprise, cloud-native, and high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
