AMD Zen 6 architecture likely to support AM5 platform

Leaked documents from AMD's official website suggest that the upcoming Zen 6 processor architecture will continue to support the AM5 platform. This indicates that users with current AM5 motherboards will likely be able to upgrade to Zen 6 processors without replacing their hardware.

The leak identifies two primary Zen 6 product lines: Olympic Ridge, a desktop-specific chip, and Medusa, an APU designed for both AM5 and mobile FP10 interfaces. Olympic Ridge is expected to launch in late 2026 or early 2027, potentially utilizing TSMC's 2nm process and offering up to 24 cores. Medusa APUs are projected to arrive in mobile devices around 2027.

Technological possibilities for the Medusa APU include a modular design that allows for the connection of additional silicon, such as high-performance RDNA 5 graphics or 12-core Zen 6 chiplets. There are also indications that Zen 6 could support V-cache configurations, similar to X3D technology. Furthermore, Zen 6 may introduce a third core type optimized for low-power background tasks, utilizing components from previous AMD architectures.
