Amediastiftelsen acquires Norwegian publisher Aschehoug
Amediastiftelsen has acquired the Norwegian publishing house Aschehoug. André Støylen, the managing director of Amediastiftelsen, stated that the foundation is interested in long-term ownership and views the acquisition as a cohesive system rather than a collection of individual assets.
The deal includes several entities such as Oktober, Fabel, Norli, and De Norske Bokklubbene, but excludes the legal service Juridika and certain properties. Mads Nygaard, the current CEO of Aschehoug, is expected to step down around the turn of the year.
A key component of the acquisition is a partial ownership in Fabel Lyd, an audiobook streaming service co-owned with Gyldendal. While Fabel Lyd has faced significant financial challenges, reporting a combined operating deficit of 137 million NOK over the last five years and a 31 million NOK deficit in 2025, Støylen emphasized that the foundation focuses on total revenue across the group. The foundation aims to improve results, with Fabel Lyd projecting a positive outcome by 2026.
