Amendolara, Italy: Officials Lay Wreath at Site of June 1 Laborer Burnings

Four migrant laborers were burned alive at a service station on the State Road 106 in Amendolara, Calabria, on 1 June 2026. On 4 July, the Calabrian Episcopal Conference, the regional prefect, and the mayor of Amendolara placed a floral wreath at the site as a gesture of “hope and trust”. Bishops Mons. Francesco Savino and Mons. Giuseppe Alberti spoke about responsibility, dignity and safety in work.

The ceremony included a moment of prayer for the victims—Amin Fazal Khojani, Ullah Ismat Qiemi, Safi Iayjad and Waseem Khan—and a round‑table discussion on free, dignified and safe labour conditions at the local Madonna della Salute parish.
