Amendolara Protest Demands End to Migrant Labor Abuse After Four Workers Killed

On June 1, four migrant agricultural workers – an Afghan and three Pakistanis – were murdered when their car was set ablaze at a service station on State Road 106 near Amendolara, Calabria, Italy. Two Pakistani men accused of the crime have been arrested and placed in custody.

The following day the CGIL trade union organised a large protest in Amendolara, drawing thousands of participants from across southern Italy. The rally, attended by Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein and CGIL leader Maurizio Landini, marched from the site of the fire to the town square, calling for an end to exploitation and the caporalato system. Slogans such as “Mai più sfruttamento e ipocrisia” echoed through the crowd, highlighting broader concerns over illegal labor practices and the treatment of migrant workers in Italian agriculture.
