America. gov: Trump administration launches AI federal services portal

The Trump administration has launched America. gov, an AI-powered digital portal designed to serve as a single entry point for federal information and services. The platform consolidates data from approximately 29,000 government websites, allowing users to ask questions in plain language to receive answers based on official sources.

The chatbot is powered by Google’s Gemini and Elon Musk’s Grok (via xAI). While currently functioning as a conversational search tool, the administration plans to expand its capabilities by 2027 to allow for direct transactions, such as Medicare enrollment and passport renewals. President Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to integrate their online services with the portal.

The launch has faced immediate scrutiny due to the chatbot’s responses to politically sensitive topics. Early reports indicated the AI provided answers that contradicted President Trump’s claims regarding the 2020 election and climate change. Following this, the chatbot reportedly began declining to answer certain political questions, leading to debates regarding the tool’s reliability and transparency.
