American Airlines completes first US commercial delivery of synthetic jet fuel
American Airlines has completed the first US commercial airport delivery of electro sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) for a passenger flight. The fuel, produced by Infinium at its Pathfinder facility in Corpus Christi, Texas, was blended with conventional jet fuel and delivered through existing airport infrastructure.
The flight, operated using an Embraer E175, traveled from Corpus Christi International Airport to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. Unlike traditional sustainable aviation fuels that rely on biobased feedstocks like cooking oil, eSAF is produced using renewable electricity, water, and carbon dioxide captured from the air or industrial waste. This synthetic process can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90% compared to petroleum-based jet fuel.
The fuel met ASTM specifications for Jet A, meaning it can be used in current aircraft engines and fueling systems without modification. Infinium is also developing Project Roadrunner, which aims to produce approximately 23,000 tons of eSAF and other eFuels annually.
