American Airlines eSAF commercial flight

Overview

American Airlines completed the first U.S. commercial passenger flight using electro-sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) produced by Infinium. The flight traveled from Corpus Christi International Airport to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport using an Embraer E175.

The eSAF was produced at Infinium’s Pathfinder power-to-liquids plant in Corpus Christi, Texas, using renewable electricity, water, and captured carbon dioxide. This synthetic fuel was blended with conventional Jet A and delivered through existing airport infrastructure without requiring modifications to aircraft or fueling systems.

Infinium reports that this synthetic process can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90% compared to petroleum-based jet fuel. While this flight marks the first commercial delivery of such fuel to a U.S. airport, Infinium is continuing development on Project Roadrunner, which aims to produce approximately 23,000 tons of eSAF and other eFuels annually.
