American Airlines flies first U.S. passenger jet on synthetic eSAF fuel
American Airlines operated a scheduled flight from Corpus Christi International Airport to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport using electro‑sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) produced by Infinium at its Pathfinder power‑to‑liquids plant in Corpus Christi. The fuel, made from captured carbon dioxide and renewable electricity, was blended with conventional Jet A, met ASTM International specifications, and was delivered through the airport’s existing fuel storage and distribution system without any modifications to aircraft or infrastructure. The flight marks the first U.S. commercial passenger flight to use synthetic jet fuel that does not rely on biobased feedstocks and is the first delivery of such fuel to a commercial airport in the United States. Infinium says the eSAF can cut lifecycle greenhouse‑gas emissions by more than 90% compared with conventional petroleum‑based jet fuel.
