American Airlines flights diverted due to technical issues

Two separate American Airlines flights required unplanned landings due to technical malfunctions.

On October 5, 2026, a Boeing 737-800 traveling from Boston to Chicago declared an emergency after the crew suspected a fuel leak in the right engine while at a cruising altitude of 30,000 feet. The aircraft returned to Boston Logan International Airport approximately 45 minutes after departure. All 160 passengers on board were uninjured.

On October 6, a Boeing 777 flying from Madrid to Dallas was forced to land at New York-JFK after six of its eight onboard toilets became inoperable. The crew issued a ‘Pan-Pan’ call, indicating an urgent but not life-threatening situation. The aircraft landed at JFK with significant fuel reserves and was subsequently inspected by technicians before continuing its journey to Dallas, arriving nearly 15 hours after its initial departure from Spain.
