American Airlines secures board seat at Azul Linhas Aéreas
American Airlines has exercised warrants to acquire approximately 7.9% of Brazilian carrier Azul Linhas Aéreas, following a $100 million investment. The deal, which received unanimous approval from Brazil’s antitrust regulator, CADE, on October 7, results in American appointing its alliances chief, Jeff Ogar, to the Azul board.
As part of the warrant agreement, Azul CEO John Rodgerson resigned from the board and its Strategic Committee, though he remains the company's CEO. Ogar, who has led airline alliances at American since 2023, will take both seats as the alternate. This move follows a similar $100 million stake previously taken by United Airlines in the Brazilian airline.
