American executive found dead in São Paulo hotel

Andres Barquero Dembo, a 44-year-old American executive in the pharmaceutical sector, was found dead in a hotel room in the Brooklin Novo neighborhood of São Paulo on Thursday.

Dembo, a Venezuelan-born naturalized U.S. citizen, served as a commercial director for Latin America at the multinational company Sandoz. He was in Brazil for business commitments. According to reports, he had informed a colleague the previous day that he was feeling unwell with flu-like symptoms before returning to the Sheraton São Paulo WTC Hotel to rest.

Family members alerted hotel management after failing to establish contact, leading to the discovery of his body. While no obvious signs of violence have been reported, the Civil Police have registered the case as a suspicious death. The 96th Police District (Cidade Monções) is leading the investigation and has requested forensic examinations from the Medical Legal Institute (IML) to determine the exact cause of death.
