Death of American executive in São Paulo

Overview

Andrés Barquero Dembo, a 44-year-old Venezuelan-born American executive for the pharmaceutical company Sandoz, was found dead in a room at the Sheraton São Paulo WTC hotel in Brazil.

Initial reports indicated that Dembo had informed a colleague of flu-like symptoms before returning to his hotel to rest. While the Civil Police of Brazil registered the case as a “suspicious death” and assigned the investigation to the 96th Police Precinct, preliminary forensic examinations have suggested the death may have been due to natural causes.
