American expat highlights cultural differences in Dutch supermarkets
An American expatriate from San Diego has shared her experiences navigating daily life in the Netherlands, specifically highlighting cultural differences encountered while shopping at an Albert Heijn supermarket.
In a video shared with her social media followers, the woman detailed challenges such as the Dutch shopping cart system, which requires a coin or chip to unlock. She noted that because she rarely carries small change, she was unable to use a cart. Additionally, she expressed a preference for traditional checkout methods over the modern digital scanners and self-service kiosks commonly used in Dutch supermarkets.
