American Red Cross partners with Hello Kitty to boost blood donations

The American Red Cross has partnered with Sanrio’s Hello Kitty and Friends to launch a blood and platelet donation campaign running from September 1 to September 20. To encourage participation, donors who participate during this period will receive an exclusive American Red Cross x Hello Kitty plush mascot clip and a surprise sticker pack, while supplies last.

The initiative aims to bolster the national blood supply, which is currently recovering from critically low levels experienced over the summer. The Red Cross noted that the supply remains vulnerable due to seasonal factors, including back-to-school disruptions and potential weather-related issues such as Atlantic hurricane activity.

In Orange County, the promotion has already seen significant engagement, with over 17,000 potential donors signing up for information and nearly 3,000 appointments booked within the first week of the announcement. Various blood drives are scheduled throughout the month in locations including Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Laguna Hills, and Santa Ana, as well as several counties across Indiana.
