American tourist rescued from cliff in Zakynthos, Greece
A 22‑year‑old American visitor was trapped on a steep cliff in the Naftia (Nauagio) area of Zakynthos, Greece. The incident was reported by a nearby canteen, prompting a rapid response from the Zakynthos Fire Service, the Elatia mountain unit and the 17th Emergency Rescue Service with 20 firefighters and seven vehicles.
Firefighters reached the site using climbing equipment, secured the young man and lifted him to safety. He was handed over to an EKAB ambulance, received first‑aid treatment and was later released to return home. Municipal Civil Protection and the Greek Police also assisted, and officials praised the coordinated effort as a successful example of emergency response on a high‑traffic tourist spot.
