Amílcar Olán Aparicio located in Switzerland amid corruption allegations
Amílcar Olán Aparicio, a businessman linked to the sons of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has been located living in Lugano, Switzerland. Following an anonymous tip, journalists from TV Azteca tracked him to a luxury residence in the Collina d’Oro area. During an attempt to interview him, Olán reportedly reacted aggressively, attempting to block a camera and threatening to call the police.
Olán faces numerous allegations involving corruption and influence peddling. Investigations by various media outlets suggest his companies secured lucrative public contracts for infrastructure projects, including the Tren Maya and the Interoceanic Corridor, as well as medical supplies. Additionally, his company, Portacelis Gas and Oil, has been cited by tax authorities regarding fuel import discrepancies.
In response to the reports, President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the Federal Prosecutor's Office (FGR) should only open an investigation if sufficient evidence of illegal activity is presented, rather than acting solely on media reports. The FGR has confirmed there are currently no active investigations or arrest warrants against Olán. Meanwhile, opposition politicians from PAN, PRI, and MC have criticized the government, demanding transparency and immediate investigation into the alleged corruption network.
