Amílcar Olán Aparicio, a businessman linked to the sons of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has faced scrutiny regarding his connections to criminal figures and allegations of financial misconduct.

In September 2026, photographs emerged showing Olán attending the wedding of the daughter of Hernán Bermúdez Requena, the alleged leader of the ‘La Barredora’ criminal group. While the Mexican Attorney General’s Office (FGR) denied the existence of arrest warrants against Olán for organized crime or tax fraud at that time, his association with Bermúdez Requena drew significant attention.

By late September 2026, Olán was located in Lugano, Switzerland, reportedly living under the alias Jorge Aparicio to evade Mexican authorities. Following an anonymous tip, journalists from TV Azteca tracked him to a luxury residence in the Collina d’Oro area. During an encounter with reporter Irving Pineda, Olán reportedly reacted aggressively, attempting to block the camera and threatening to involve local police when questioned about corruption and irregular public contracts.

Reports indicate Olán was residing in a 200-square-meter luxury property with terraces, which has been listed for rent at approximately 15,000 Swiss francs per month. Mexican Senator Óscar Cantón Zetina commented on the high cost of the residence, noting that while he personally could not afford such rent, it is not appropriate to judge those with the financial means to do so.

Political figures from the PAN, PRI, and MC parties have pressured the FGR to launch a formal investigation into his involvement with the supply of materials for the Tren Maya and Tren Interoceánico projects, as well as issues regarding fuel imports and medicine sales. In response, President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the FGR must only open an investigation if “sufficient evidence of illegal activity is presented.”
