Aminata Seck legal challenge: U.S. government responds to detention appeal

The United States government has submitted its response to a legal challenge regarding the detention of Senegalese basketball player Aminata Seck. Seck has been held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since August 7.

Her legal team filed an emergency habeas corpus petition in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, seeking a judicial review of the legality of her detention. Following an order from Judge David J. Hale, the U.S. government was required to submit its response by September 28. The defense has until September 30 to file a reply.

In support of their case, Seck’s lawyers have submitted various documents to the court, including records of her entry into the United States, her academic history, administrative immigration documents, and letters from officials at Kentucky State University. Authorities in Dakar are reportedly monitoring the situation closely, specifically regarding her health and detention conditions.
